-PAUL: First MAD, Thanks for the kind comments. You summed us up quite nicely with a short amount of verb. The Political/Spiritual beginnings of Poker Face started in 1994 when the first protest song AMERICA was written for our 2nd disc NEXT!. If you listen to this disc, it’s like listening to 2 different bands lyrically. The first half is still the pop-love boy-girl lyrics of our 1st disc GAME OF LOVE era, and then it flips, and starts hitting you upside the head with political/spiritual lyrics. We have never looked back since. The band that you see today started taking shape with the Rock of the band bassist Dennis Beidler joining in 1998 and Lead Guitarist/Drummer extraordinaire Brett Griffiths in 1999.
Our awareness into the political realm started with events like the Branch Davidian Christians getting murdered by their/our Federal & TX State Governments who acted as judge, jury and executioners before they were suppose to be judged by 12. Are there any other musicians who you would credit for your interest in recording/performing, and any other bands who you would credit as influence? Do you think everything’s just become far too corporate these days?
-PAUL: Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Boston(real bummer Boston’s vocalist Brad Delp recently commited suicide), Frank Zappa, Dream Theater.
New bands that we listen to are bands like Shine Down & Breaking Benjamin.
We would like to do a Freedom-Palooza like tour with Willie Nelson, Mark Farner from Grand Funk, Ted Nugent, 3 Doors Down, Shine Down, Rush, and a few others to make it a freedom info-tainment show, traveling across America. Bring along groups like NORML, HighTimes, The Libertarian Party, or any other third America first type party. Set up booths for Pro Gun groups, Pro border/language/culture groups, Have Survivalist outfits, Solar/Grassoline Alternative power groups. Anyone and everyone that we can think of that could make America a better place.

You’re not only the lead vocalist, song writer and guitarist, but you also have a talent for a variety of other instruments which you provide on the albums. What is the process of preparation for your performances, and what muses drive you to continue creating and recording?
-PAUL: Actually all of the members play a variety of instruments. Dennis plays bass guitar, guitar and keyboards, including some Bras. Brett stomps on guitar, as well as he does on the drums, he also dabbles the keyboards. Richy plays the drums mainly but also some electric guitar. As for myself I play Keyboards way better then I do the acoustic guit-fiddle, but I also play woodwinds like the sax as well. Sometimes we switch the instruments up at practice and play at some cover tunes. It’s nothing less then a blast when we do. Life always needs more levity…
The creativity process happens anytime, anywhere. Usually we have our favorite places, where inspiration happens more often. A short riff jamming on the acoustic at a friend’s house turns into a song at practice. The new music coming out reflects all of us writing together. We hope our fans like the growth in our artisanship and the continued direction we are headed in as a writing style. Our friends have told us we definitely have “OUR own sound”. IE… a wall of guitars, and multi-layered ‘Alice In Chains’ like harmonies, all blended together for a power packed fist of freedom smacking the enemies of it, right in the face!

War as well as nuclear, and biological attacks are being promoted on the news every day. If things continue along this pace, what do you see transpiring in the Middle East within the next 5 years?

The Middle East could be solved very easily.. Give both side, nukes. I don’t blame the Arabs for wanting what amounts to a GUN on a nation/global capacity. -PAUL: Corporations are the faceless, human less entities created by the elites to serve out their needs and wishes. It is thru these Corporations that countries and peoples are manipulated and shaped, instead of the other way around. When this country was started, it was God our Creator who created man who lived and worked, and formed businesses that prospered and we lived good lives. Now it is Corporations who buy up all the small businesses, who own and control men, and tell them that there is no God. It is time to over turn this counterfeit anti-God system.
Today's Magi residing in Kabballah-wood, create illusions that shape our pop-culture and minds heavy use television programming they input into us thru their many tentacled media empires. The lies they sell, get sold down the line, in triplicate or more, thru all levels of life. -MAD: I don't endorse Fred Thompson or Ron Paul, I have a very difficult time trusting any campaign that is this well organized, and has such questionable connections to 25 years worth of politicians, corporate CEO's, and Hollywood celebrities. -PAUL: 911 truth movement is just the latest label on a long time movement for real freedoms in this country. The lies they told us that day 9-11-01 were just too blatant. Even with the heavy hollyweird indoctrination… mind control that went on that day and the days and weeks afterward. It was one of the grandest Psy-ops ever that was pulled off. Until we got our sense back and started asking good questions that had NO good answers coming back from the government toadies. The more time passed by, the clean up of 911, looked like the cover up of 911. Then to add insult to injury, after many months/years of complaining and demanding an investigation, these POS put Henry Kissinger in charge of the investigation. I think it was around then, that the lid came off, and more and more videos came out pointing out different pieces of the 911 lies. Which ever way it goes, all I know is that the prophets of old in the Old Testament wished they could live at this time, because they knew how exiting the age would be. -MAD: Being established musicians, with hundreds of shows under your belt, and multiple albums, is there any advice you’d like to give to musicians out there who want to “break into the business”? Any words of wisdom you can impart?
-PAUL: Don’t let go of your dreams. If you do, you will end up miserable like most folk we meet out there in the world. The dreamers need to dream for the rest of us. If you do follow your dreams, most often then not, you will have to work harder then anyone else. Usually at least twice as hard. Even then, those around you wont see it or appreciate it unless you achieve some sort of fame or stature. Don’t let that bother you. Most folks are short sighted, and most definitely don’t see through your eyes how much really is going on with you. Stay the course. Your music will continue to develop into what your sound is to be.
The cool thing about the music play ground is that it is big enough for all of us to play on. Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Do what you do, and do it the best that you can.
If you make any product available, don’t be afraid to give at least half or more away for free. Let your fans download a few of their favorites, and pass them around to potential new fans. We did the same thing with cassettes and recording the latest track off of the radio and playing it later for our buds. Consider each copy, a play on the radio, that you couldn’t pay for such great advertising.
Be true to yourself and the craft/art that comes out of you. Never let your mate turn you away from it, otherwise you will suffer mind body spirit. Find a mate that will always appreciate and encourage your art/music. You might be poor in cash, but you will be happy, and have real friends you could never buy.

-PAUL: First MAD, Thanks for the kind comments. You summed us up quite nicely with a short amount of verb. The Political/Spiritual beginnings of Poker Face started in 1994 when the first protest song AMERICA was written for our 2nd disc NEXT!. If you listen to this disc, it’s like listening to 2 different bands lyrically. The first half is still the pop-love boy-girl lyrics of our 1st disc GAME OF LOVE era, and then it flips, and starts hitting you upside the head with political/spiritual lyrics. We have never looked back since. The band that you see today started taking shape with the Rock of the band bassist Dennis Beidler joining in 1998 and Lead Guitarist/Drummer extraordinaire Brett Griffiths in 1999.
Our awareness into the political realm started with events like the Branch Davidian Christians getting murdered by their/our Federal & TX State Governments who acted as judge, jury and executioners before they were suppose to be judged by 12. Brett stomps on guitar, as well as he does on the drums, he also dabbles the keyboards. Richy plays the drums mainly but also some electric guitar. As for myself I play Keyboards way better then I do the acoustic guit-fiddle, but I also play woodwinds like the sax as well. Sometimes we switch the instruments up at practice and play at some cover tunes. It’s nothing less then a blast when we do. Life always needs more levity…
The creativity process happens anytime, anywhere. Usually we have our favorite places, where inspiration happens more often. A short riff jamming on the acoustic at a friend’s house turns into a song at practice. The new music coming out reflects all of us writing together. We hope our fans like the growth in our artisanship and the continued direction we are headed in as a writing style. Our friends have told us we definitely have “OUR own sound”. Until we got our sense back and started asking good questions that had NO good answers coming back from the government toadies. The more time passed by, the clean up of 911, looked like the cover up of 911. Then to add insult to injury, after many months/years of complaining and demanding an investigation, these POS put Henry Kissinger in charge of the investigation. I think it was around then, that the lid came off, and more and more videos came out pointing out different pieces of the 911 lies. -MAD: Being established musicians, with hundreds of shows under your belt, and multiple albums, is there any advice you’d like to give to musicians out there who want to “break into the business”? Any words of wisdom you can impart?
-PAUL: Don’t let go of your dreams. If you do, you will end up miserable like most folk we meet out there in the world. The dreamers need to dream for the rest of us. If you do follow your dreams, most often then not, you will have to work harder then anyone else. Usually at least twice as hard. Even then, those around you wont see it or appreciate it unless you achieve some sort of fame or stature. Don’t let that bother you. Most folks are short sighted, and most definitely don’t see through your eyes how much really is going on with you. Stay the course. Your music will continue to develop into what your sound is to be.
The cool thing about the music play ground is that it is big enough for all of us to play on. Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Do what you do, and do it the best that you can.
If you make any product available, don’t be afraid to give at least half or more away for free. Let your fans download a few of their favorites, and pass them around to potential new fans. We did the same thing with cassettes and recording the latest track off of the radio and playing it later for our buds. Consider each copy, a play on the radio, that you couldn’t pay for such great advertising.
Be true to yourself and the craft/art that comes out of you. Never let your mate turn you away from it, otherwise you will suffer mind body spirit. Find a mate that will always appreciate and encourage your art/music. You might be poor in cash, but you will be happy, and have real friends you could never buy.
